Planned Giving

Why should you consider a Planned Gift To Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma?

An effective planned giving strategy allows you to provide for you and your family’s future while still contributing to charity in a tax effective way.  Your attorney, working with Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma, can enhance this process by offering you a wide range of charitable opportunities that might not otherwise be possible.

Whether supported through an outright gift of planned giving, all HSWO programs are made possible through the generosity and commitment of people like yourselves.  A planned gift to HSWO helps to ensure the future of the services and programs we provide in your community and may further your financial goals at the same time.

Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma has the confidence of thousands of people who know that our volunteer board of community leaders, expert staff, vast knowledge of the community and it’s needs, and proven asset management guarantee that their carefully invested charitable gifts will be administered according to their wishes.  Whether you wish to make a simple bequest or create a comprehensive estate planning strategy through a Charitable Gift Annuity or Charitable Remainder Trust, your attorney can help you and your professional advisor create a planned gift that fits both your interests and financial means.  Contact our office for more information.

What are Planned Gifts?

Planned gifts include gifts through your will, charitable gift annuities, gifts of life insurance, pooled income funds, and charitable trusts.

Charitable Remainder Trust:

From the charitable giver, a gift of cash, appreciated stocks, real estate or other assets are transferred into a trust.

The charitable giver receives an immediate charitable tax deduction for the charitable portion of the trust.

The trust pays the individual or a designated beneficiary fixed income payments.

Upon the beneficiary’s death or after a set term of years, the remaining assets of the trust transfer to whatever fund or funds the individual has designated to Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma.

Your attorney will handle all of the administrative details and issue grant awards to Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma in the name of the fund.

The gift is placed in an endowment fund that is invested over time and all earnings become a permanent source of support for the community through services provided to anyone by Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma.

Bequests/Wills:

The charitable giver includes Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma in his or her will as a bequest. Your attorney can help you with the recommended language.

The charitable giver determines the type of fund he or she would like to establish with their gift. The fund agreement can be changed easily without changing the charitable giver’s will.

The charitable gift is excluded from the charitable givers assets for estate tax purposes.

The charitable gift is placed in an endowment fund that is invested over time and all earnings become a source of support for the community through services provided to anyone by Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma.

Your attorney will handle all of the administrative details.

Charitable Gift Annuity:

The charitable giver makes a gift of cash, appreciated stocks, real estate or other assets to Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma.

Your attorney will set up a contract with you that will combine immediate annuity payments with a deferred charitable gift.

The charitable giver receives a fixed stream of income regardless of the market condition.

The charitable giver receives an immediate income tax deduction for the charitable portion of the gift.

The charitable gift is placed in an endowment fund that is invested over time and all earnings become a permanent source of support for the community through services provided to anyone by Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma.

Your attorney will handle all of the administrative details including issuing the annuity payments and, afterward, issuing annual grant awards to Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma in the name of the fund.

Gift of Life Insurance:

The charitable giver may purchase a new policy or donate a policy that he or she currently owns but no longer needs.

The charitable giver designates Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma as both the owner and beneficiary of the life insurance policy.

If the policy has a cash value, the giver can take a charitable deduction approximately equal to the cash value at the time of the gift.

A charitable life insurance gift can provide a significant year-end charitable deduction for the giver.
